- In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water over medium heat. Stir continuously until the sugar has completely dissolved, about 3 to 5 minutes.
- Add 1 cup of fresh basil leaves to the warm syrup and stir gently. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
- After simmering, remove from heat and let the basil steep for an additional 30 minutes.
- Strain the basil syrup through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or another saucepan. Discard the basil leaves and let the syrup cool.
- While the syrup cools, juice the lemons and prepare the fresh lemon juice.
- In a large pitcher, combine the basil syrup and freshly squeezed lemon juice, then add 4 cups of cold water. Stir well.
- Refrigerate the Basil Lemonade Drink for at least 30 minutes before serving over ice.
