Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water over medium heat. Stir continuously until the sugar has completely dissolved, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  2. Add 1 cup of fresh basil leaves to the warm syrup and stir gently. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. After simmering, remove from heat and let the basil steep for an additional 30 minutes.
  4. Strain the basil syrup through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or another saucepan. Discard the basil leaves and let the syrup cool.
  5. While the syrup cools, juice the lemons and prepare the fresh lemon juice.
  6. In a large pitcher, combine the basil syrup and freshly squeezed lemon juice, then add 4 cups of cold water. Stir well.
  7. Refrigerate the Basil Lemonade Drink for at least 30 minutes before serving over ice.
