  • 1 pound Ground Beef Use an 80/20 blend
  • 1 Yellow Onion Finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic Freshly minced
  • 1 packet Taco Seasoning Homemade or store-bought
  • ½ cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil For sautéing
  • 1 teaspoon Chili Powder Optional
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Optional
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika Optional
  • to taste Salt Essential for flavor
  • to taste Black Pepper Essential for flavor
For the Taco Shells
  • 8 Corn Tortillas About 6 inches in diameter
  • as needed Vegetable Oil For frying
For the Toppings
  • 1 cup Lettuce Shredded
  • 1 cup Tomatoes Diced
  • 1 cup Cheese Shredded, cheddar or Mexican blend
  • ½ cup Sour Cream
  • ½ cup Guacamole
  • ½ cup Salsa Mild or spicy
  • 1 Red Onion Chopped
  • ¼ Jalapeños Fresh or pickled
  • ¼ cup Cilantro Chopped
  • 1 Lime For squeezing

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 finely chopped yellow onion and cook for about 5-7 minutes until translucent. Stir in 2 cloves of minced garlic and sauté for another minute.
  2. Add 1 pound of ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook for about 7-10 minutes until browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Sprinkle in 1 packet of taco seasoning along with 1 teaspoon of chili powder, 1 teaspoon of cumin, and 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Pour in ½ cup of water and stir, bringing to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat to low, allowing it to thicken for about 10-15 minutes.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to around 350-375°F. Fry corn tortillas one by one for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Fill each crispy shell with the seasoned beef mixture and top with your choice of toppings.
  7. Arrange tacos on a platter and serve hot with lime wedges on the side.
