Method
 

Cookie Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add in egg, vanilla extract, and molasses; mix until fully combined.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chopped nuts if using.
  7. Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake in preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden brown.
  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
