Method

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, warm 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add 1 pound of ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks. Sauté for about 5–7 minutes until it’s browned and no longer pink.
  2. In the same skillet, add chopped onion and diced green bell pepper, sautéing for 5–7 minutes until they soften and the onion turns translucent.
  3. Incorporate 2 cloves of minced garlic along with 1 tablespoon of chili powder, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, and 1 teaspoon cumin. Cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Stir in 15 ounces of tomato sauce, 14.5 ounces of diced tomatoes, ¼ cup of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, and 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard. Pour in ½ cup of beef broth, and bring the mix to a simmer.
  5. Lower the heat and cover the skillet, simmering for 30–60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. While the filling simmers, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Melt 4 tablespoons of butter and stir in ½ teaspoon of garlic powder. Brush this mixture onto both sides of 8 slices of Texas toast.
  7. Once the Texas Toast is ready, spoon a generous amount of the sloppy joe filling onto one slice of toast. Add your desired toppings.
  8. Serve the assembled sloppy joes warm for the best texture and flavor.
