  • 10 ounces Day-old Bread cubed
  • 4 Eggs
  • 2 cups Whole Milk or milk alternative
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream or half-and-half
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar or brown sugar
Flavor Enhancements
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract or almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon optional
  • 1 pinch Salt
Optional Additions
  • 1 cup Raisins or Chocolate Chips use one or both
  • 1 tablespoon Butter for greasing the dish

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease the baking dish with butter.
  3. Cube the day-old bread into bite-sized pieces and spread evenly in the prepared dish.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes and gently press down to soak. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  6. Add optional raisins or chocolate chips on top of the soaked bread.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
  9. Serve warm, optionally with whipped cream or caramel sauce.
