  • 1 can Crushed Tomatoes San Marzano is recommended
  • 1 can Tomato Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato Paste
  • 1 cup Dry Red Wine optional; can substitute with beef broth

For the Cheese Mixture

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet, sauté onion for 5 minutes, then add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  2. Add ground beef and Italian sausage to the skillet. Brown meat for 8-10 minutes, then drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Season with oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine ricotta, grated Parmesan, beaten egg, and parsley. Season and mix until smooth.
  5. Melt butter in a saucepan, whisk in flour to create a roux, then add milk gradually. Stir in Parmesan cheese until melted.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, béchamel, and mozzarella in a baking dish.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing and serving.
