Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by coring and slicing the Granny Smith apples into ¼-inch thick rounds. Arrange them on a platter.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  3. Mix the milk, egg, and vanilla in another bowl, then pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until just combined.
  4. Heat about an inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Dip each apple slice into the batter and place into the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Transfer fried apple slices to a wire rack lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Drizzle warm apple slices with caramel sauce, then sprinkle with toasted coconut.
