  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast ensure it's fresh
  • 1 teaspoon sugar can be omitted
  • 1 teaspoon salt essential for flavor
  • 1 cup warm water 105-115°F
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
For the Cheese Filling
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese offers a classic flavor
  • ½ cup shredded provolone cheese optional
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese nutritional yeast for vegan option
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or fresh herbs
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder or fresh minced garlic
For the Garlic Butter Topping
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter can substitute with olive oil
  • 2 cloves minced garlic or roasted garlic
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley or other herbs

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water with active dry yeast and sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt until combined. Make a well in the center.
  3. Pour activated yeast mixture and olive oil into the well. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
  6. While rising, mix mozzarella, provolone, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder in a bowl.
  7. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Once dough has risen, punch it down and roll it into a rectangle, spread cheese mix, and roll tightly.
  9. Cut into stick shapes and place on the baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Melt butter in a saucepan, mix in garlic, garlic powder, parsley, and salt. Brush onto baked sticks.
  11. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
