  • 1 cup milk or almond milk for dairy-free
  • 0.25 cups warm water should be around 110-115°F
  • 0.25 cups unsalted butter melted, can substitute with coconut oil
  • 1 large egg or a flaxseed egg for vegan
For the Filling
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter softened; vegan butter is an option
  • 0.5 cups light brown sugar maple sugar can be used
  • 2 tablespoon ground cinnamon omit for non-cinnamon variations
  • 0.5 cups chopped pecans or walnuts optional, can use sunflower seeds
  • 0.5 cups raisins or dried cranberries optional, any dried fruit can be used
For the Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened; choose vegan option if needed
  • 2 cups powdered sugar granulated can be used
  • 2-3 tablespoon milk non-dairy works well too
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract almond extract can be an alternative

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Set aside.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, combine the warm milk, warm water, melted butter, and egg, stirring gently until blended.
  3. Form the Dough: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead the Dough: Dust a clean surface with flour and knead the dough for about 6-8 minutes until smooth.
  5. Let It Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
  6. Prepare the Filling: Cream together softened butter, light brown sugar, and cinnamon until smooth.
  7. Roll Out the Dough: Punch down the risen dough, turn it out onto a floured surface and roll into a rectangle.
  8. Spread the Filling: Evenly spread the filling over the rolled dough.
  9. Roll and Slice: From one edge, tightly roll the dough into a log and slice into 12 pieces.
  10. Second Rise: Cover with a towel and let them rise for 30-45 minutes until puffed.
  11. Preheat and Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Cool and Frost: Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then frost with cream cheese frosting while warm.
